Painted Steel & Aluminum

Sioux City, Iowa

Sioux City was commissioned in 1977 by the city with funds from the National Endowment for the Arts and Iowa Beef Processors, Inc. Originally placed in the newly renovated downtown mall, the iconic piece has since been moved to a new location in front of the Sioux City Art Center.  The sculpture was the second in a generation of large scale pieces that incorporated very large elements, with tubular sections two feet square and upper elements constructed of aluminum to lower the center of gravity.
