City of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Pittsburgh was created for The Three Rivers Art Festival Sculpturescape project of 1977. John Henry was invited with three other sculptors to participate and all the included works were built with donated materials and funded by local industries including Alcoa, Levinson steel, National Steel and Tygart Industries. John completed his sculpture in a month’s time and has fond memories of the experience working with the other artists while building their work in Pittsburgh.  After the year long exhibition the sculpture, which belonged to the artists, was purchased by a major collector and given to the city.  The piece now sits along Bigelow Boulevard near the Strip District which is just outside the city in the residential community of Oakland.
